GLEQ Grand Prize Awarded to OcuSciences
More than $50,000 in cash awards presented to technology and life science companies
The Great Lakes Entrepreneur's Quest (GLEQ) hosted its Statewide Business Plan Competition Award Ceremony on Thursday, June 12, 2008 with partner organizations Automation Alley, NextEnergy, and Southwest Michigan First at the James B. Henry Center on the Michigan State University campus. The event was sponsored by Spartan Ventures and Dickinson Wright PLLC.

The GLEQ $25,000 Grand Prize in the Emerging Company category was awarded to OcuSciences, Inc. of Ann Arbor, Michigan. OcuSciences was co-founded by Drs. Victor Elner and Howard Petty from the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center and has developed a rapid and unique non-invasive imagining technique to detect retinal diseases earlier than current methods. The OcuSciences plan was pitched by Matthew Field.

FastTrac TechVenture for Western Michigan Entrepreneurs


The GLEQ FastTrac for Michigan’s west-side entrepreneurs kicked off on Wednesday, February 27. Thirteen companies ranging from medical device developers to Web 2.0 ventures gathered in Kalamazoo at the offices of Southwest Michigan First for the first of six sessions.

GLEQ Winners Announced at ACE


Sci_Zone earned the $5,000 top prize in GLEQ's Emerging Company category during the ACE '08 event held at Washtenaw Community College on January 17th. OcuSciences, Inc. took the $2,000 first place honor in the New Business Idea category. More than 400 professionals were on hand at ACE '08 to witness the awards ceremony.

GLEQ Business Plan Competition -- Register Now Through October 31
Great Lakes Entrepreneur’s Quest (GLEQ) has launched the Fall 2008 statewide business plan competition.

GLEQ provides Michigan’s technology entrepreneurs with training, coaching and investor feedback as part
of its annual two-phase business plan competition. August 25 marked the beginning of Phase I -- and all start up technology companies are encouraged to compete.

Phase I judging focuses on the Executive Summary for both New Business Idea and Emerging Company competitors.

Register by Friday, October 31 to participate.

Executive Summaries are due by Friday, December 5.

Awards will be presented at ACE'09 on January 22, 2008.

Register early to maximize coaching support and to increase opportunities to participate in education programs.

OPS Solutions Receives Automation Alley Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Award
Belleville, Michigan-based OPS Solutions, LLC, was the recipient of the Automation Alley Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Award of $12,500 at the GLEQ Awards Event held at Michigan State University on June 12th. OPS Solutions developed the Light Guide System to aid manufacturers in manual assembly procedures and in off-line training areas. LGS projects lighted work instructions, symbols, blueprints, and videos directly on work surfaces to guide operators through the entire assembly cycle. Danielle DeLonge of Automation Alley- sponsored ConnecTech presented the award to OPS Solutions director of sales Jim Ryznar.

NextEnergy Presents $12,500 Alternative Energy Innovation Award to FlexSys
NextEnergy presented the Alternative Energy Innovation Award to FlexSys, Inc. Dan Radomski, Director of Industry Services for NextEnergy, presented the $12,500 award to Dr. Shridhar Kota, founder of FlexSys, during GLEQ's Awards Event. FlexSys is developing adaptive blades for the wind turbine industry that capture wind more efficiently across all operating conditions and reduce structural loads when wind gusts are high.
